Ca s\u0103 nu mai vorbim de faptul c\u0103 este absolut imposibil \u00een a folosi numere romane pentru calculele multi-stagiale. Totodat\u0103, \u00een sistemul roman, nu exist\u0103 nicio reprezentare a cifrei „0”, iar, chiar \u015fi cele mai simple opera\u0163iuni cu zecimale, nu pot fi exprimate \u00een numere romane.<\/p>\n

\u00cen ciuda tuturor acestor deficien\u0163e, numerele romane se presupune c\u0103 au r\u0103mas predominante \u00een reprezentarea numerelor \u00een cultura european\u0103 p\u00e2n\u0103 \u00een secolul al XIV-lea. Enigma ecua\u0163iilor diofantice<\/strong><\/p>\n

Se crede c\u0103 \u00een secolul al III-lea, matematicianul grec Diophantus a fost capabil s\u0103 g\u0103seasc\u0103 solu\u0163ii pozitive \u015fi ra\u0163ionale la urm\u0103torul sistem de ecua\u0163ii, denumite ast\u0103zi ecua\u0163ii diofantice:<\/p>\n
